First 7 Project For 2010

First we have the WISH project. This is the Dinner With Scott quilt. I took Scott to his first quilt shop 8 and a half years ago, Back Porch in Pacific Grove. He had no clue about fabric, he started then buying 1/2 yards of fabric with food on it. I have a little bit of everything in the box. Now to get started.

The ironing board is covered in the first 6 UFO's to be finished. I think I will have them all done before July. I will start at the top left:
1. Calendar Men Quilt- A LOT of quilting and binding. A little quilting is done.
2. Wild West Quilt- It NEEDS additional quilting to be usable. It has been ditched and bound.
3. Tessellations Quilt- This is my nemesis. It has been sitting next to my machine for over a year. All that is left is quilting the border and binding.
4. Brown and Blue Quilt- This needs trim and binding. The blue fabric on the top edge is to be the binding.
5. Lunch With My Friends Quilt- I my Bento Box at the Quilter. The lime fabric on the brown and blue quilt is the binding for that one.
6. Mod Quad Quilt- This is to be a twin quilt for Nikki, last years birthday. I have 11 weeks and 12 blocks done maybe I will make this year.
And don't forget that I need to bust 39 yards from my stash.
Now your turn, share with me your quilting goal for the new year. I know you have one.

Free Week

I have decided to take this week off of the Stash Busters. Anything used or purchased wont be counted. And no Lisa I am not going on a shopping spree, I did buy 5 yards of Kona White though.

I am going to spend this week figuring out my first 6 UFO's to be worked on, my first WISH project, getting organized and cleaning up. I am also going to trim a quilt and look for the fabric for the binding. I am also planning on finishing the top to the Milky Way blocks I won and setting another batch of blocks I won last fall from my guilds block of the month.

I will post photos of the UFO's I pick, my WISH project and the 2 tops I get done a little later this week.

SO what are your quilting goals for this next year?

Week 52

Fabric In This Week: 0 yards
Fabric In This Year: 132.451 yards

Fabric Out This Week: 1.5 yards
Fabric Out This Year: 216.609 yards

Total Fabric Busted: 84. 158 yards

I did buy fabric this week but I also used it this week. I didn't count it in or out. I purchased fabric for the border of the Milky Way blocks I won last month in Block Lotto. My blocks just have 2 more rows to set and the borders are already cut. I would like the top done before the end of the year.

This week I did some small stuff. I made December and January's Block Lotto blocks and I made a few owls for Toy Society. That is it.

I am happy with my results for the year. I fell a little short of my goal but I tried and that's what counts. I have learned much by being part of the Stash Busting Report over at Judy's this past year. I have made things out of my comfort zone, discovered weak spots in my stash, and used some of my scraps. I am pleased.

Stash Busting Goals 2010

Okay I am posting now my goals for next year. I am making 3 goals:

1. Bust 78 yards from my stash.
2. Complete 1 UFO a month, NOT 12 a year a minimum of 1 a month all extras are just that EXTRA
3. Make and Finish 2 WISH projects, you know the ones you have everything for but the time to make them.

What are your goals? Come one Share with me.

Week 51

Fabric In This Week: 0 yards
Fabric In This Year: 132.451 yards

Fabric Out This Week: 4.125 yards
Fabric Out This Year: 215.109 yards

Total Fabric Busted: 82.658 yards

I came close to my 5 yards goal, I am happy with that. I made a few bags for gifts to go in, 4 more potholders, a pillowcase and started the Dinner With Scott quilt. I am still working on the binding for the client quilt.

This week my goal is 7.5 yards. That will take me to 90 yards busted and only 14 yards short of my goal. I will be very happy with that. I need to make 4 more potholders this week, a crib sheet, and a few toys for the toy society. I will have to pull out a UFO to work on too.

How is everyone else doing with their Stash Busting Goals this year? Anyone going to join up next year? I am!

Week 50

Fabric In This Week: 1.125 yards
Fabric In This Year: 132.451 yards

Fabric Out This Week: 8.125 yards
Fabric Out This Year: 211.084 yards

Total Fabric Busted: 78.633 yards

I am making a come back. I am only down 22.367 yards as of this week. I still have a chance of making my goal of 104 yards busted.

This last week I got the backing to Lunch With Friends down, it will go to the quilter Wednesday. I also made a pillow case, 4 potholders, toys for the Toy Society and a few other things.

My goal for this next week is 5 yards. I have other Christmas stuff to get done. I still have a pillow case, 8 potholders, and more toys. That should be at least 4 yards of fabric. I am hoping to start my dinner with Scott quilt too. The first thing I need to sew is the binding on the client quilt.

Week 49

Fabric In This Week: 4.5 yards
Fabric In This Year: 131.326 yards

Fabric Out This Week: 1.625 yards
Fabric Out This Year: 202.959 yards

Total Fabric Busted: 71.633 yards

I did so good not buying fabric this week, until 3pm on Saturday! Can you believe it I had 9 hours to go. We walked into Cabin Fever Quilt Shop in Auburn. They had Olivia fabric on Clearance and they had Beer fabric. Daphne needed 1.5 yards of both of the Olivia fabrics and Scott has been on a 8 year mission for beer fabric, 1.5 yards of that too.

I didn't do any big sewing this week. Everything I did was 1/4 or 1/8 of a yard. I did make a few toys for the Toy Society. I have an alien and a ladybug in the box for the Christmas toy drop. Friday night I whipped up a robot to drop in Auburn. I also have a doll in parts for the box.

This weeks goals 10 yards, I know I keep saying that. I do have 2 pillow cases to make this week. If they get done they are a yard each. I also wanted to piece the back for my Bento Box quilt. I am thinking of cutting a top for another quilt. IF I get all of that done I will be close to my 10 yards. Plus I need to make 3 or 4 toys this week for the box.

What is your goal this week?

Week 48

Can you believe the year is almost over!!!

Fabric In This Week: 3 yards
Fabric In This Year: 126.826 yards

Fabric Out This Week: 7.333 yards
Fabric Out This Year: 201.334 yards

Total Fabric Busted This Year: 74.508 yards

I am not sure if I will make my goal of 104 yards busted. I am still 30 yards away. I will try. I know I can get to 90 yards. That will be my big push. I am still hoping for 104 yards though.

My goal this week will be 5 yards. I think I am aiming high but it is worth a try. I hope to finish another project for a client, a pillow case and a crib sheet.

Let's See What I Get Done!

Tuesday, November 24, 2009

Week 47

Fabric In This Week: 2.25 yards
Fabric In This Year: 123.826 yards

Fabric Out This Week: 2.625 yards
Fabric Out This Year: 194.001 yards

Total Busted This Year: 70.175 yards

Okay back to the 70 yard mark. I hope to bust 10 yards this week. I want the 80 yard mark.

The up side is I have finished the Queen Quilt for the client and I am hoping to get it to my quilter this weekend. I am waiting for the go ahead from the client. I have one more client to sew for and it is an apron, hoping to get that done this week too.

Then sewing for me! I have a wall hanging that I need to finish and mail by Friday and I have started a Bento Box for me. This is the first time I have made one, so far I really like it. I found a cheater way to do it. I would like the top of that done this weekend too.

I will gladly take more clients.

Monday, November 16, 2009

Week 46

Fabric in this week: 2.5 yards
Fabric in this year: 121.576 yards

Fabric out this week: 5.333 yards
Fabric out this year: 191.376 yards

Total Busted This Year: 69.800 yards

Dang almost back to 70 yards! And I have already bought fabric this week! Good news I have made a lot of progress on the Client Queen Quilt for Christmas. Plus I have another client for Christmas!

Goals this week is to bust yards from my stash. Plus get some what caught up on my quilt for an hour project with Judy. I haven't worked on it in over a week! The last goal is to get 15 things posted in my Etsy Shop Kumquat Kewtie. It got neglected while I finished being pregnant.

Sunday, November 8, 2009

Week 45

Fabric In This Week: 7.25 yards
Fabric In This Year: 119.076 yards

Fabric Out This Week: 12.207 yards
Fabric Out This Year: 186.043 yards

Total Busted This Year: 66.967 yards

Okay so it will be a slow climb back to that 104 yards by the end of the year. I will make it! Less than 40 yards to go and I have 7 weeks to do it in. I CAN DO IT!

That 7.25 yards purchase was the rest of the fabric I needed for Judy's current Quilt For an Hour Project. Mine looks like nothing I have made before! I tried Judy's advise of getting a print that you like and pulling the colors from there. I liked the stripe that my client gave me to use in her quilt, so I grabbed it and went and matched colors. I will get some of the stripe to use as my binding.

I also sent one of my quilts to a new quilter this week, I am trying a new to me quilter. So that was 6 yards for a back out of the stash. Maybe I can get another one to a quilter before the end of the year, hmmm.

This next week I am hoping to get all the blocks for the client quilt done, which will bust no stash, plus Scott is leaving for Iraq, so no child care. I am hoping for 10 yards but I think 5 yards is my reality.

Check back next week and see if it is 5 or 10 yards.

Sunday, November 1, 2009

Week 44

Fabric In This Week: 7.375 yards
Fabric In This Year: 111.826 yards

Fabric Out This Week: 1.625 yards
Fabric Out This Year: 173.736 yards

Total Busted This Year: 61.910 yards.

Bad news, my busted numbers are going in the wrong direction. I should have been at 88 yards busted for the year as of this week. Which means I am buying more than I am currently using and I 26 yards behind my goal. CRAP!

I did buy fabric this week for 2 new projects. First project is for a Lime Zinger Quilt, spin off of the Red Zinger quilt I am using Lime fabric though. With this said anyone who would like to donate their selvage edges to me I would be very happy! I do need about of 1/4" into the fabric plus the printed edge. The second project that I bought fabric for was Judy's new Quilt For Hour that starts tomorrow.

New goal this week I NEED to use 15 yards this week. I am think I wont make it but it is worth a try! Did I mention that I also need to start a client's quilt this week?

Monday, October 26, 2009

Week 43

Fabric In This Week: 26 yards
Fabric In This Year: 104.451 yards

Fabric Out This Week: 5.75 yards
Fabric Out This Year: 172.111 yards

Fabric Busted This Year: 67.660 yards

WOW! This week was a HUGE set back. I know I wasn't alone on the shopping binge though. For that 26 yards that I purchase 8 of it was backing for Twisted Christmas and pillow cases, 6 yards was Fleece for 2 Christmas throws for gifts, and the other 12 yards was flannel. JoAnn's had Flannel on sale 60% off, so I stocked up!

I did finish The HHR club donation quilt, worked some on Alice In Wonderland's costume and last I started a Thimbleberries Quilt. I won Thimbleberries fabric and it happens to match one of my Secret Santa partners style.

Sunday, October 18, 2009

Week 42

Fabric In This Week: 0 yards
Fabric In This Year: 78.451 yards

Fabric Out This Week: 9.333 yards
Fabric Out This Year: 166.361 yards

Fabric Busted This Year: 87.910 yards

Not too bad this week! I beat my goal of 3 yards and I got a few projects done. I was able to finish my Freeze Frame quilt top from Judy's Quilt For an Hour, 6 Pillow Cases for Jackie and Hole In The Wall Gang, BOM for Two Creative Studios and I have started the HHR Club quilt that needs dropped off next Saturday. Never mind I am finishing up a Alice In Wonderland costume for a client.

My goals for next week is to break even, 0 yards busted. WAIT let me explain. First JoAnn's has flannel on sale 60% off and I NEED black. If JoAnn's has black flannel I will be purchasing a few yards. Also I will be going to Walnut Creek to have my machine repaired so I might buy fabric too. Then I will be going to the Antioch Quilt Show on Sunday but that wont be counted until week 43. So I am hoping to bust the same amount that I purchase.

My version of Judy's Freeze Frame. I call mine Twisted Christmas.

Alice In Wonderlands dress for a client. Waiting for her fitting.

Starting of the HHR Club quilt. Needs to be delivered next Saturday.

Sunday, October 11, 2009

Week 41

Fabric In This Week: 0 yards
Fabric In This Year: 78.451 yards

Fabric Out This Week: 3.5 yards
Fabric Out This Year: 157.028 yards

Fabric Busted This Year: 78.577 yards

This week not much sewing got done. I am trying to finish up Judy's Freeze Frame quilt, I am calling mine Twisted Christmas. I am finishing Hour 10 tonight and hoping to start Hour 11. Having a baby on Hour 9 delayed me a little. I am determined to get this top done this week. I did end up cutting 1 yard of fabric to make the pieced border.

The bulk of my yardage out was 2.5 yards in 2 1/2" strips my mom cut from my stash to use for a class she is taking in 2 weeks. I figure out yardage was out yardage!

This next week I need to finish Twisted Christmas quilt, finish the Alice in Wonderland costume and piece the top for the HHR clubs raffle quilt. I will use some yardage on the two quilts, so my goal this week is 3 yards busted.

Monday, October 5, 2009

Week 40

Fabric In This Week: 0 yards
Fabric In This Year: 78.451 yards

Fabric Out This Week: 0.875 yards
Fabric Out This Year: 153.528 yards

Total Busted This Year: 75.077 yards

I was hoping to bust a yard last week I came close. I didn't get much done. In the little time I had I got part of the pieced border done on my Quilt For An Hour and 3 6 inch 9-patches done. I also had a baby on Thursday. You can see her on my other blog.

This weeks goal is 3 yards of fabric and an Alice In Wonderland dress for a costumer. Let's see what happens!

Design Wall Monday

This first photo is what my design wall really looks like today. On the upper left corner you can see my block for the BOM over at Two Creative Studios, my blog friend Vicki twisted my arm to do this! On the upper Right is my Asian Stars for this months Block Lotto. On the top of the Bordello Quilt is Judy's Quilt For an Hour project Freeze Frame. Again Vicki talked me into this project too.

Here is a better photo of Baby at the Bordello. This is the left over stripe sets from the Bargello quilt I made my friends mom about 2 years ago now. If you have read the Bordello Quilt story, go to my other blog you will enjoy it. Baby at the Bordello will be for Nu Bebe, she is coming on Thursday. A friend will be posting a photo of her at my other blog on Thursday if you want to come back and see her.

Week 39

Fabric In This Week: 7 yards
Fabric In This Year: 78.451 yards

Fabric Out This Week: 5 yards
Fabric Out This Year: 152.653 yards

Total Busted This Year: 74.202 yards

Okay not so good. I went backwards 2 yards. I did buy fabric this week for Judy's Quilt For an Hour project. I am loving mine!!! My blog friend Vicki talked me into doing it. I wasn't going to. I decided I would do it and I wanted to uses the 2 pieces of batiks I got in Buellton last May. Unfortunately I didn't have anything to go with the batiks. So 2 yards of pink and 1 yard of green to go with the batiks. I also found out this week that I had ran out of Kona White, I bought 4 yards.

I figure since I am going to have a baby on Thursday that I wont be adding to the stash for a few weeks. Maybe I can see a decrease again!

Sunday, September 20, 2009

Week 38

Fabric In This Week: 0 yards
Fabric In This Year: 71.451 yards

Fabric Out This Week: 4.833 yards
Fabric Out This Year: 147.653 yards

Total Busted This Year: 76.202 yards

I am BACK!!! My goal is to bust an average of 2 yards per a week. The 15 yard purchase Labor Day set me back a bit. Plus I know I will be delayed in October, having Nu Bebe. I am hoping in the next 10 to bust 10 yards.

Let's see if I can make it!

Sunday, September 13, 2009

Week 37

Fabric In This Week: 15.75 yards
Fabric In This Year: 71.541

Fabric Out This Week: 9.25
Fabric Out This Year: 142.820

Total Busted: 71.279

It looks like I wasn't the only one shopping this week. The good news is ALL of the fabric was purchased for specific projects. I did pick up 8 yards to make crib sheets for Nu Bebe. I even got 3 of them made, I will be making the last one this week. Also I will be posting a tutorial on how to make them this week. Another 5 yards was purchased to make a quilt for a raffle prize for Scott's HHR Club. They have a BIG show at Tom's Farm in So-Cal in November. Another yard was actually 4 quarter yard cuts of Aqua for Jane's Red and Aqua Disappearing 9-Patch Swap. I got ALL of my 25 blocks made and cut this week. They will go into the mail tomorrow afternoon. And the last 1.25 yards of the 15.25 yards is for John's Wonky Log Cabins for Old Red Barn's Quilt Along.

Week 36

Fabric In This Week: 0
Fabric In This Year: 55.791

Fabric Out This Week: 2.083
Fabric Out This Year: 133.570

Total Busted: 77.779

All I got done was the Dozen Frankie blocks for the Halloween Swap. I should have them back this next week. I am hoping to make them into 3 throws, one for each of the girls and one for me. I saw a cute Halloween throw in the Gooseberry Patch Catalog. I should easily be able to make something similar from my stash. I am also thinking of turning the 9-patches into disappearing 9-patch on the backs.

Sunday, August 30, 2009

Week 35

Fabric In This Week: 2.5 yards
Fabric In This Year: 55.791 yards

Fabric Busted This Week: 5.416
Fabric Busted This Year: 131.487

Total Busted: 75.696

I know I wasn't planning on buying fabric this week BUT my quilt guild had their Yard Sale at this months meeting. I purchased a 1 yard piece of Joel Dewberry's Woodgrain in Lime for only $4! I was also able to get a 6 fat quarter bundle of Heather Baily's Pop Garden for only $10! I couldn't pass up the deals. I also purchase a vintage chenille queen size bedspread for $4. I am thinking of making the girls coats.

I did make Nu Bebe a Duvet cover this week, which helped use up some yardage. I also made another Christmas gift and 12 more Halloween 9-patches for Jane's Halloween Swap. I am filling a last minute spot and will have more yardage busted this week with my themed blocks.

My Goal this week is busting 4 yards.

Sewing For Baby- Duvet Tutorial

Supplies
1 3/8yds backing
3/8yds top (Buttonhole Piece)
1 1/4 yds top (Button Piece)
*If using the same 2 pieces on top you need 1 5/8 yds
3 buttons approx 1 inch
coordinating thread
Marking pen or pencil

The measurements are based on a Toddler Comforter approx 36x50.
I pre-wash all my fabrics how they will be cared for. I for this I use hot water and Tide Free detergent since that will be the long term care.
These directions are for making a general Duvet. The pieced blocks on mine quilt are from my pattern Hole In My Roll which is for sale on my Etsy Site. If you have purchased the pattern and would like exact measurements for this Duvet Cover please leave me a comment.

Cutting:
I cut my length then my width.
Backing 49" x 37"
Top Buttonhole Piece 12" x 37"
Top Button Piece 44" x 37"

1. Starting with the top Buttonhole Piece fold bottom up 2 inches and press. You will then fold that again 2 inches and press. Raw edge should be on the inside. With wrong side of fabric facing up sew 1/4" away from top folded edge. This will hold the facing in place.

2. Fold fabric in half to find the center of the facing. You will need to mark this, I finger press and insert a straight pin. Fold each side to the center and mark those too. You should now have have markings 1/4, 1/2 and 3/4 of the way across the facing. You now need to center your buttonhole at those points 1 inch up from the edge. Follow machine directions for making button holes.

3. I place a straight pin just to the inside of the bar tack on each end of the buttonhole, I carefully insert my seam ripper into the center of the buttonhole and cut to the pin. The pin stops me from ripping open the bar tack and running my buttonhole. I always slid my button through the buttonhole at this point to make sure it is big enough.

4. You will now repeat step 1 with the Top Button Piece. Fold the top edge down 2 inches and press. You will then fold that down another 2 inches and press in place. Raw edge should now be on the inside. With wrong side facing up sew 1/4" away from bottom folded edge. this will hold facing in place.

5. Wrong Sides together pin Duvet Back and Top Button piece together along the bottom. Sew 1/4" seam allowance. Once this is done pin Left side and sew 1/4" seam allowance. Repeat on the Right side, pin and sew 1/4" seam allowance. NO the unfinished edge is not going to be on the outside, we are making French Seams! No raw edges for baby.

6. Again with Wrong Sides together pin Duvet Back and Top Buttonhole piece together along the top. Sew 1/4" seam allowance. Pin the Left side and sew 1/4" seam allowance. Repeat on the Right side, pin and sew 1/4" same allowance. At this point the Buttonhole facing on top should overlap the Button facing by about 2 inches.

7. Trim your corners slightly to reduce bulk. Flip Duvet inside out. Press all seams straight and flat. *Some prefer to press seam open before flipping Duvet to making this easier.* If you choose at this time also pin edges, to make sewing easier on you.

8. ALL SEAMS WILL NOW BE 3/8" SEAM ALLOWANCE. I again sew Bottom seam at 3/8". Then the Top seam. Next is down the Left side. Last is the Right side. I DO NOT turn and make continuous stitching. The reason is if something has shifted it all adds up and the bubble gets pushed to one spot of the Duvet. By sewing one side at a time I can ease in a spot if needed.

9. Flip back to right side. Lay the top edge of the Duvet flat on a table. Pin facings together. Insert your marking pen into your buttonhole and mark the center of the buttonhole on the facing of the Top Button piece. Repeat until you have marked all 3 buttonholes.

10. Unpin the facings and sew a button onto each of the 3 markings. Once this is done you are ready to insert your comforter.

*** If you decide to piece a section of your Duvet make sure your pieced section measures out to the cutting size you need. If you have pieced blocks you may want to add a top and bottom border in order to make up for the facings and the french seams.

Week 34

Fabric in this week: .25 yards
Fabric in this year: 53.291 yards

Fabric busted this week: 1 yard
Fabric busted this year: 126.071 yards

Total Busted: 72.880 yards

Not much sewing got done here this week. I did cut squares to make yo-yos for a baby mobile, 50-ish, from my scraps. I also made a sewing Travel Case that I will be listing in my Etsy store next week. I finished machine appliqueing ghost for a Halloween swap, I already counted that fabric. That's it.

I know I said I would post a picture of my new To Go Sewing Kit. I am putting Photos on hold until tomorrow. I have something on my design wall so I will post everything together on Monday.

My goal for next week is 5 yards busted. I have stuff for Nu Bebe's room to make, so I should be able to use some yardage. Sitting here today, I think I have all the fabric I need/want for those projects so my in number should be low.

Sunday, August 16, 2009

Week 33

Fabric in this week: 5 yards
Fabric in this year: 53.041 yards

Fabric Busted this week: 10.75 yards
Fabric Busted this year: 125.071 yards

Total Busted: 72.030 yards

The 5 yards of purchase fabric was also busted this week. I purchased 5 yards of flame flannel to back a rag quilt. It is finish, clipped, washed and being used! I call it Liar, Liar Pants On Fire.

The .75 yard is scraps from my Bordello Quilt that are being used to make a purse, trying out a pattern. Yes I know it is Bargello Quilt, go read the story.

My goal for this next week is to finish some stuff. I don't think I will have any huge busted numbers but I am hoping for 3 yards anyways. Come back next week to see if it happens.

Sunday, August 9, 2009

Week 32

Fabric in this week: 2.25yards
Fabric in this year: 48.041 yards

Fabric Busted this week: 7.125 yards
Fabric Busted this year: 114.321 yards

Total Busted: 66.280 yards

Not bad if I do say so myself. First I am a little ahead of my goal schedule. I am hoping to get even further. I have a feeling I might not make my 2 yards a week goal when I have the baby. I am currently 2.28 yards ahead of my weekly goal of 2 yards a week.

This week I was able to use up some stash making Christmas Gifts and I started piecing a back of a quilt. I think that is what my biggest yardage busted was.

This next week I am hoping to finish my quilt back, make a few more Christmas gifts, and get the borders on the Stars and Stripes quilt. With all of this I am hoping to but another 7 or 8 yards.

Sunday, August 2, 2009

Week 31

Fabric in this week: 0 yards
Fabric in this year: 45.791 yards

Fabric Busted this week: .125 yards
Fabric Busted this year: 107.196 yards

Total Busted: 61.405 yards

Really should I even post that I used and eighth of a yard?

Next week I am hoping for more impressive numbers. Delaney will be gone for 5 days and I get to go to a free sew for my guild on Saturday. I am actually hoping to quilt 3 quilts this week. I still need to piece 2 backs and get borders on another one. That should give me some yardage busted!

My goal is no more than 5 yards in and 8 yards busted.

Tuesday, July 28, 2009

Week 30

Fabric in this week: 0 yards
Fabric in this year: 45.791 yards

Fabric Busted this week: 5.5 yards
Fabric Busted this year: 107.071 yards

Total Busted: 61.280 yards

Not much exciting got done. I got the borders on the 9-Patch A Day quilt. It is now sitting in the pile to be quilted. I started the second 9-Patch A Day quilt, 7 blocks done! I also finished cutting my fabric for the I Spy A Swap. I will be mailing those this week.

I am hoping to finish a few things this next week but they wont be using up yardage. I am hoping to bust at least a yard. Wish me luck!

Sunday, July 19, 2009

Week 29

Fabric in this week: 4 yards
Fabric in this year: 45.791 yards

Fabric Busted this week: 2.125 yards
Fabric Busted this year: 101.571 yards

Total Busted: 55.780 yards

So my 4 yards of Alexander Henry's Flames showed up this week. I have been meaning to buy this fabric, I need it for my Rings Of Fire quilt. I bought extra since it is older and I wanted to make sure I had enough for when I get around to finish the quilt.

This week I am aiming for a 5 yard bust. I need to cut my novelties for the I Spy A Swap, which will use up 2.5 yards and I need to get the last 2 borders on my 9-Patch A Day quilt, I am thinking that will be about 2 yards too.

Check back next week to see if I make it!

Round 2 of 9-Patch A Day Quilt Along

I had so much fun doing this the first time around! I am at the stage of adding borders to my quilt. I am already in love with it and my quilt still needs a back and quilting!

Amanada Jean over at Crazy Quilt Mom is starting a 2nd round of the 9-Patch A Day Quilt Along. If you missed the first round join the second round, you'll be happy you did! This is a great way to use of your scraps! The bonus is it is one simple block a day to make or do a bunch at one time.

If you use scraps by making the 70 9-Patches you use about 3 1/2 yards of fabric! So far with my sashing ONLY I have used 1 yard of my Kona Snow. I still have the borders to do so my used yardage will go up!

I haven't decided if I am going to make another one or just piece my backing this time around.

Week 28

Fabric in this week: 0 yards
Fabric in this year: 41.791 yards

Fabric Busted this week: 1.5 yards
Fabric Busted this year: 99.446 yards

Total Busted: 57.655 yards

I am still happy with my numbers. I was able to finish an UFO from 6 years ago this past week. Sorry camera is still broke so no pictures. I really feel like I am making some progress.

I did place an order online yesterday so I will have to count that next week. If you don't know the online site Quiltin' Tia is closing and having a great sale. I was able to get the flame fabric I have been needing for only $4 a yard and shipping was $5. I need it for my Rings Of Fire quilt, Bella Bella. Most of the fabric is 50% off!

Week 27

Fabric in this week: 0 yards
Fabric in this year: 41.791 yards

Fabric Busted this week: 1.25 yards
Fabric Busted this year: 97.946 yards

Total Busted: 56.155 yards

The numbers are slowly rising. At least they are going up! I was able to cut part of the sashing for my 9-Patch quilt along, I have even sewn one row together. I have also started the binding on my $5 quilt that is going to my niece Allison. I should have the binding done today. Which means knocking another UFO off the list! Talk about killing two birds with one stone.

Today I am giving up my Sewing Studio. I don't know how much sewing I will get done in the next few days. I am hoping to quilt the border on my Tessellations quilt and get the binding on that this week. I am also hoping to get all the vertical sashings sewn on the 9-Patch quilt. I am aiming for another yard busted this week.

Fabric Busted this week: 0.916 yards
Fabric Busted this year: 96.696 yards

Total Busted: 54.905 yards

Okay I know that I didn't bust much. BUT most of my week was spent getting the house ready for Scott to come home from Iraq for his 2 weeks leave. Thursday I picked him up form the airport. So really I am amazed that I even had time to sew. I think my numbers will be down for my busted for a few more weeks but the good news is I wont be adding to my stash either. I am hoping for a yard a week while he is here. Check back next Sunday to see how I did!

Week 25

Fabric in this week: 5.125 yards
Fabric in this year: 41.791 yards

Fabric Busted this week: 7.274 yards

Week 24

Fabric in this week: 0 yards
Fabric in this year: 36.666 yards

Fabric Busted this week: 3.25 yards
Fabric Busted this year: 88.506 yards

Total Busted: 51.840 yards

Back over the half way point and not even half way through the year!!! I would like to get ahead though. I know with having a baby and all my sewing will get cut down. Plus I am going to Pacific International Quilt show in October and that will be another BIG "in" of yardage.

I didn't get anything done this week. I am still working on my 9-patches and Calendar Quilt Challenge. I also cut most of the fabric I need for my Red, White & Blue gift that has to be done by Thursday. I currently also have 3 quilts that are waiting for me to make binding and get them finished, I really don't like that part.

Goals this week: Finish 2 projects!

Week 23

Fabric in this week: 0 yards
Fabric in this year: 36.666 yards

Fabric Busted this week: 5.333 yards
Fabric Busted this year: 85.256 yards

Total Busted: 48.590 yards

Almost to 50 yards total busted again! I am excited to be this close.

I finished the top to Andy's Wedding quilt yesterday and dropped it off with the quilter. I paid for rush quilting on it. It will be done by Andy's annual 4th of July party, where I meet Scott 8 years ago! Andy got married LAST September. I can't wait to give it to him.

I joined a Jane's Halloween Quilt Block Swap this past week. I already have my 9 Patch blocks for it done and the background picked out for my themed blocks. Now all I have to do is figure out how I want to make my Ghosts and make 12 of them!

Design Wall Monday

My design wall looks kinda boring. I am working on AmandaJean's 9-Patch A Day. Yesterday marked the half way point, Day 35. I haven't made today's 9-patch. So here it is...

Stash Report Week 22

Fabric in this week: 1.5 yards
Fabric in this year: 36.666 yards

Fabric Busted this week: 5.75 yards
Fabric Busted this year: 79.923 yards

Total Busted: 43.257 yards

Even I am impressed with my numbers! I have a chance at being at 50 yards busted by the end of week 26. I only have to bust 6.743 yards more than I purchase in the next 4 weeks. I think I can do it!

I know that I was going to try not to purchase any fabric this week BUT I was cutting out some Christmas stockings and I forgot to reverse one, which means no back only 2 fronts. So off to Buy another half yard I went. Since I am now going to be making 2 pink stocking I figured I should buy another half yard of the green so I can make another green one too. Then the quilt shop have fat quarter for $1.50, I picked up 2 batiks.

What did I make this week? Good question, I made clothes for American Anne, 9-patches for the quilt along, stripes for the Calendar Quilt Challenge and some other stuff. I finally cut up some old Dessert Rolls of the Moda Kansas City Star fabric to make a disappearing 9-patch.

I will post pictures tomorrow for Design Wall Monday. So come back I see what I did last week.

Sunday, May 24, 2009

Week 21

Fabric in this week:2.333 yards
Fabric in this year: 35.166 yards

Fabric Busted this week: 2.666 yards
Fabric Busted this year: 74.173 yards

Total Busted: 38.674 yards

Okay so I bought some fabric. I did it to make some stuff to sell on my Etsy site. I have already made a Christmas stocking, it is sooo cute. I am hoping to get my camera working at some point this next week to list the pile of stuff I have for my shop.

I also started the 9-Patch A Day Quilt Along with Amanda Jean. I decided to start this project last Monday night and to do it ALL from my scraps not stash. The problem was upon starting I was 22 days behind! As of today I should have 28 blocks made, I currently have 21 blocks. I have not made one yet today. I am VERY happy that I am some what caught up. The bonus is that the 9-Patches alone will use up 3 1/2 yards of fabric! Plus it will need sashing, backing and binding purely from my stash.

Goal for next week: Again 5 yards busted and no adding!

Sunday, May 17, 2009

Weeks 18, 19 &20

Fabric in this week:19 yards
Fabric in this year: 32.833 yards

Fabric Busted this week: 4.925 yards
Fabric Busted this year: 71.507 yards

Total Busted: 38.674 yards

I allowed myself to purchase up to 20 yards while I was on vacation in Solvang. I can say I am proud of myself I only bought 16 yards on vacation. I bought a yard before I left for Judy's stash quilt and I bought 2 yards when I got home for another project.

My goal for this next week is 5 yards used. I have no idea what I will be making but I am making something. Also I will NOT buy any fabric this week! Check back next Sunday to see how it goes. I will try to post a picture of what I got done too.

Week 17

Fabric in this week: 0 yards
Fabric in this year: 13.833 yards

Fabric Busted this week: 1.25 yards
Fabric Busted this year: 66.582 yards

Total Busted: 52.749 yards

First yeah me!!! Two weeks in a row with NO fabric purchase! I know I will be adding to my fabric on Week 19. I am making a trip to Solvang and I am spending one day shopping with the purpose of stopping at 3 shops in one day. I am hoping to be at 60 yards busted before I leave so it wont look so bad.

This week I gave a fat quarter to a friend that needed some cow print I had. I also started Judy's New Stash Buster Quilt, I need to work some more on that. It looks like I am needing to purchase about a half yard to do it BUT the rest, twin size, will come from scraps and stash!

How are you doing on your Stash Busting? Anyone trying Scrap Therapy?

Fabric in this year: 13.833 yards

Fabric Busted this week: 24.458 yards

Total Busted: 51.499 yards

I am going to admit that I did donate 20 yards from my stash to my quilt guild's philanthropy group. I am counting it because it is busted from my stash! I am working on OPAW on my other blog so I should be able to bust some extra fabric with that. Maybe I will hint my 100 yards busted by the time we get half way through the year.

Fabric in this week: 2 yards
Fabric in this year: 10.083 yards

Fabric Busted this week: 6.678 yards
Fabric Busted this year: 35.708 yards

I am a quarter of the way to my goal and a quarter of the way through the year. Not bad! I promise a Vacation Home Tutorial is coming this week.

Week 6

Nothing!

I have been working away at quilting my President's Challenge project. So that has left no time for sewing other stuff. I didn't even cut the strips for my Calendar Quilt. But I didn't buy anything either!

So my totals stay the same.

Fabric in this year: 8.083 yards

Fabric Busted this year: 29.030 yards

Total Busted: 20.947 yards

This next week maybe a yard or two.

Week 5 Stash Buster Report

Fabric in this week: 1 yards
Fabric in this year: 8.083 yards

Fabric Busted this week: 11.541 yards
Fabric Busted this year: 29.030 yards

Total Busted: 20.947 yards

First YEAH ME!!! I made the 10 yards busted goal for the week! I am way excited about that. I made a quilt back for my President's Challenge Quilt. ALL 6 yards was from my stash, and I had enough to make the sleeve to match the back of the quilt! I also used 1 1/3 yards that I purchased last week for the back of my and Liz's Primitive Hearts quilt. I am working on the binding now.

As for my 1 yard purchase, it has a use already. I purchased 1 yard of Peace On Earth for the border on my Christmas Wish BOM. I will finish my last block next September and I know I wont be able to get any more Peace On Earth fabric for the borders.

I feel like I am doing good on my Stash Busting progress. I am hoping to be able to still bust my original goal of 2 yards a week since Scott leaves today. I know my machine sewing time will be greatly reduced.

Sunday, January 25, 2009

Week 4 Stash Buster

Fabric in this week: 3.333 yards
Fabric in this year: 7.083 yards

Fabric Busted this week: 2.165 yards
Fabric Busted this year: 17.489 yards

Total Busted: 10.403 yards

Okay not much got done this week. I made a few glam bags and some other small stuff. Unfortunately I bought more than I busted. BUT 1.333 yards of the purchase is the backing for Liz and my's heart quilt which will be basted on Tuesday night so that will get busted this week. One yard is binding for my President's challenge quilt that will get busted in the next 5 weeks. The last yard was just too cute to pass up, Sushi fabric, I am going to make Laney a summer outfit maybe.

This week I am aiming for 10 yards busted! I know I can do 5 yards so I am going to double and reach for the stars. I will even include photos of projects that used up some of the 10 yard goal next week. Just so you know I already have busted .5 yard today and am hoping to do more before bed.

Who's joining me? Leave a comment with your goal of busted yards this week.

Week 3 Stash Buster Report

Fabric in this week: 0 yards
Fabric in this year: 3.375 yards

Fabric Busted this week: 4.207 yards
Fabric Busted this year: 15.324 yards

Total Busted: 11.051 yards

This week has been spent sewing prizes for my other blog's Blog-A-Versary Celebration. What fun I had! I finished 5 Glam Bags, 2 placemats and napkin rings, 1 purse, and a Men's Apron. I have also managed to keep current on my Calendar Quilt. I have also managed to get the blocks set together for my President's Challenge. I feel like I am making progress despite the chaos in my life right now.

I am hoping to be able to have the borders on my President's Challenge by tomorrow night and have the back pieces on Tuesday. After that I will marking the top for quilting. Today I need to finish up 2 placemats and post some stuff on Kumquat Kewtie, my Etsy site. I am waiting for the sun to make an appearance so I can take my photos. I think this week I will also work on my Color Swap Quilt Blocks. I have one done and eight to go. I think that might be enough to do since I need to help Scott too.

Week 2 Stash Buster Report

Welcome to Week 2 Stash Busting Report

Fabric in this week: 1.375 yards
Fabric in this year: 3.375 yards

Fabric Busted this week: 4.692 yards
Fabric Busted this year: 11.117 yards

Total Busted: 7.742 yards

This week I have worked on a few projects. I am still making progress on my guild's president's challenge project. I also cut the fabric to my Ribbon Quilt. It all came from my stash and it will be black, white and blue. I will be working on it this week. I am also working on prizes for my other blog this week which is celebrating it's 2nd blog-a-versary. All of the prizes are being made by me and I am making a second set of the prizes to put on my Etsy shop Kumquat Kewtie.

I have to admit I am not counting all the yardage I bought this week. First let me explain before you comment that I am cheating. I went to a quilter's estate sale this past week, which is where I did buy 1.375 cut yardage. I also bought a few of her UFO's. So I decided instead of trying to figure out how much yardage is in each kit now, then how much of it I use and how much I am adding to the project I will count at the end. So when I add fabric from my stash to the UFO I will count it as busted. Then when I finish the UFO and if I put any of the left overs in my stash I will count it as purchase.

For those of you who don't read my other blog, we are having so major life changes at our house. I have decided not to change my goal of busted yardage BUT I know the reality is I most likely will not make it. My sewing time will be minimal for the next year. Please don't think I have given up, I am just slowing down.

Sorry I have no pictures of what I am working on. My main focus is the president's challenge and it has to remain Top Secret.

Week 1 Stash Report

Welcome to Week 1 Stash Busting Report

Fabric in this week: 2 yards
Fabric in this year: 2 yards

Fabric Busted this week: 6.425 yards
Fabric Busted this year: 6.425 yards

Total Busted: 4.425 yards

I am very excited about this years Stash Busting. My goal is to use 104 yards more than I purchase AND to get a few "wish projects" done. A wish project is just that, I have ALL the fabrics and pattern sitting their ready to go and I WISH I had time to make it.

This week I was able to start two Wish Projects and one is finished. The first project is my President's Challenge, it is something I have wanted to make for about 5 years and haven't done. I counted the yardage in my busted since all my blocks are cut, sewing started and more than half my blocks are finished. My second project was a quilted journal cover from American Patchwork & Quilting. I am using this notebook to keep track of my Stash Busting numbers.
